TYPES OF WEEDS ACCORDING TO THE LIFE CYCLE I Mshindo Media

One of the biggest challenges in crop production, landscaping and horticulture is controlling weeds.
Weeds not only compete for water, light and soil nutrients, but they also host crop pests and plant disease-carrying insects such as aphids.

A short translation of weeds is "plants that grow in an inappropriate place." If you think of this interpretation, grass is a weed in a peanut field but also
peanut plants are weeds in a grass garden.

TYPES OF WEEDS ACCORDING TO THE LIFE CYCLE

SEASONAL WEEDS:

It is a weed that completes its life cycle (germination to death) within one crop-producing season, the obvious examples of these weeds will grow are grass-type weeds, and some broad-leaved weeds. etc

LONG TERM WEEDS:

It is a weed that completes its life cycle for more than several years, so several seasons of crop production pass before the weeds die. Weeds of this type are mostly broad-leaved. A good example of these weeds are broadleaf weeds that are abundant such as spinach plants.

TYPES OF WEEDS ACCORDING TO TYPES OF LEAVES

BROAD LEAF WEEDS:

As its name suggests, this weed has broad leaves that come from its type of seed which is dicotyledonous, that is, it has two sides, for example, it is a weed like spinach or striga.

THIN-LEAF WEEDS:

It is a type of plant that comes from one-sided seeds that have thin leaves, a good example of these plants and all grass type leaves.

All these types of weeds have two methods of control, including the use of hand or machine power to uproot or the use of chemicals to destroy weeds (Herbicides; Herbicides).

USE OF CHEMICALS FOR WEED CONTROL

Many articles have been written and much has been said about the effects of chemicals on our environment, but there is one thing that is important and emphasized in the use of all kinds of chemicals in the world, which is despised by chemical users in the country; "READ THE LABEL BEFORE USING." Because the use of chemicals to destroy weeds is still an important way to fight this problem, and increase crop production.

The labels of these medicines contain many meaningful and important information in the use of these chemicals, so it is essential to consider the information contained in these labels. In short I will mention some general considerations in the use of herbicides;

o Read the label before using any type of Chemical.

o Keep Medicines away from children

o Do not use the same sprayer for weed killers and insecticides, write one for WEEDS.

o Use a low pressure nozzle to avoid spraying herbicide chemicals on the relevant plants.

o N spray weed killer chemicals during a period of calm with no wind or rain even for the next 24 hours unless the relevant herbicide needs to be sprayed with water after use (Watering-in).

o Wear special chemical spray clothing covering eyes, skin, hands and feet if possible use a certified air filter.

o Wash three or more medicine containers and sprayer before storing or disposing in a
special manner, do not use for any other use.

TYPES OF HERBICIDES ACCORDING TO THE SPECIES OF WEEDS.

SELECTIVE HERBICIDES:

These are herbicides that kill only one type of weed, such as broad-leaved ones alone, such as Farmbase 2-4 D Amine, these herbicides can be used to kill weeds in a field or an area with narrow-leaved plants that should be left alone. The use of these herbicides can accomplish this goal without causing harm to the plants concerned. But the details of the dosage of the drug should be taken into account as an overdose can lead to unreliable results.

NON-SELECTIVE HERBICIDES:

These are herbicides that are capable of killing all types of plants indiscriminately, examples of these drugs are ALLROUND and GUGUZOT. Often these herbicides are used in areas that do not have crops yet or in roadsides, railways and under power poles.

The use of these medicines should be based on the recommended measurements according to the types of plants present in the area in order to avoid unexpected results.

TYPES OF PESTICIDES ACCORDING TO THE PERIOD OF USE:

PRE-ERMERGENT:

These are herbicides that kill weeds when they are still seeds or before they emerge from the soil. Some of these chemicals kill weeds by killing the young roots as soon as they emerge from the stem.

POST-EMERGENT:

These are weeds that destroy weeds that have already sprouted. Most of the types of herbicides
available in the country are of this type. An example of effective drugs of this type is ALLROUND, GUGUZOT and FARMBASE 2,4- D from
distributors of veterinary drugs and crops like FARMBASE Ltd.

Post-emergent type herbicides such as ALLROUND, FARMBASE 2,4 - D and others, will work very effectively if they are used during the period of weed growth "active growth" (not the period of severe drought or the period when the plant has stopped growing). Many of these drugs are systemic, so the transport from the leaves to the roots and vice versa is very easy during the rapid growth of the plant.
