PEAR FARMING

Pears have been cultivated for thousands of years and have a rich history in many cultures. The earliest evidence of pear cultivation dates back to ancient China, where these fruits were first cultivated over 3,000 years ago. From there, pear cultivation spread throughout the world, thanks in part to the popularity of the fruit with traders and travelers. In Europe, pears were cultivated by the ancient Greeks and Romans, with a wide range of pear varieties being grown throughout the Mediterranean region. The Middle Ages saw the cultivation of many new pear varieties in Europe, and by the 16th and 17th centuries, pears were being grown across the continent. In North America, pears were first introduced by European settlers in the early 1600s. These early settlers brought over European pear varieties, which were then crossbred with wild American pears to produce many new varieties. Today, pears are grown all over the world and are enjoyed for their sweet, juicy flavor and nutritional benefits.
